Trump calls for prosecuting 'liar' ex-FBI chief Comey

One could make a perfectly valid argument that Trump deserves this sort of treatment and that Comey's dislike of him is justified.

"He is a weak and untruthful slime ball who was, as time has proven, a awful Director of the FBI", Trump responded.

After Trump fired Comey as FBI director last May, news emerged that Comey kept contemporaneous memos on his conversations with Trump, claiming Trump had asked him to end the investigation into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

"When I chose to just do it, I said to myself, I said you know, this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made up story, it's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won", Trump said in an interview at the time. In the book, Comey compares Trump to a mob boss who demands loyalty from all those around him, even if it means twisting the truth.

Trump didn't take the revelations lying down, calling out Comey on Twitter a "weak and untruthful slime ball", and a "proven LEAKER & LIAR".

Sanders is accusing Comey of leaking classified information and breaking his "sacred trust with the president of the United States, the dedicated agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the American people".

In an interview broadcast on Friday on ABC's "Good Morning America," Comey discussed his initial encounters a year ago with Trump, who took office on January 20, 2017. It is the subject of an investigation into whether he sought to obstruct justice in the probe of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Former FBI Director James Comey blasts President Donald Trump as unethical and "untethered to truth" in a sharply critical new book. Moscow has repeatedly denied US intelligence agencies' findings that it interfered in the campaign to try to tilt the November 2016 vote in Trump's favor. Comey said the president was also obsessed with the alleged existence of a video in which Russian prostitutes said to be hired by Trump urinated on the bed in a Moscow hotel room.

In the memoir, Comey discusses the circumstances surrounding his dismissal from the Trump administration in May 2017.

"I said to him, 'Sir that's up to you but you want to be careful about that because it might create a narrative that we're investigating you personally and, second, it's very hard to prove something didn't happen", Comey said.

Meetings with Trump gave Comey "flashbacks to my earlier career as a prosecutor against the Mob", he says. "Really weird. It was nearly an out of body experience for me".

"I honestly never thought this words would come out of my mouth, but I don't know whether the current president of the United States was with prostitutes peeing on each other in Moscow in 2013", Comey told ABC. "It's possible, but I don't know".

Before Trump and Comey met alone, USA intelligence chiefs briefed Trump and his advisers on Russia's election meddling.

Many blame Comey for Democrat Hillary Clinton's loss to Trump in the 2016 Electoral College.
