Officials in New York City said a man has been killed in a raging apartment fire at Trump Tower.

One resident told the New York Times she received no notification that the building was on fire or any calls to evacuate.

The New York police department closed 5th Ave between West 55th Street to West 57th Street and West 56th Street between Madison Avenue and 5th Avenue.

The 67-year-old victim, identified as Todd Brassner, was the occupant of a 50th-floor residence where the fire started, WNBC reports.

However, Brassner had filed for bankrupcy in 2015 after dealing with a series of issues that caused him to fall in arrears on his mortgage. 200 Firefighters and EMS - emergency medical services - members are on scene.

The President, who owns the 58-storey building, took to Twitter 45 minutes after the fire broke out to praise firefighters and to highlight the structural integrity of his tower.

The legislation was stimulated on by a significant fire in a so-called "fire-resistant" home block without any sprinklers on NY city's Upper West Side the previous December, and another in a Brooklyn housing project the very same month where corridor sprinklers stopped working. It was ruled under control around 9 p.m.

The bill was later passed in March 1999 allowing buildings built before that year to not have sprinklers unless there were major renovations. As you can imagine, the apartment is quite large, we are 50 stories up. "Firemen (and women) did a great job", the president wrote on Twitter at 6:42 p.m.

Trump Tower's fire-suppression systems were up to code, and there were no violations witnessed, an FDNY source said. The upper floors, the residence floors, are not sprinklered'.

Officials said Sunday that Brassner's cause of death was yet to be determined and that an investigation into the fire was ongoing. Members pushed in heroically, they were knocking down the fire, ' Nigro added.
