Every day the park receives at least 600 visitors, and 1,000-1500 on holidays.

"The Union Government is committed to cooperative federalism, our mantra is 'sabka-sath, sabka-vikas.' Let us work together to build a new India that would make our freedom fighters proud", he said. All road routes were cut out and a wall between the IIT Madras and the Adyar Cancer Institute was razed to enable the PM to travel through the walled and gated campus premises.

The protests also come amid rising awareness and discontent over the Modi government's decision to use the population figures of the 2011 Census to decide the proportion of money sharing between the Centre and state governments. "More than 40 countries have sent their official delegations as well", PM Modi said.

In May 2014, the total number of defence export permission granted stood at 118, for a total value of United States dollars 577 million.

"Our commitment to peace is as strong as our commitment to protecting our people & our territory". Today's protest comes two days after pro-Tamil outfits opposing the IPL match in the city, trying to play spoilsport over the Cauvery issue. I am very happy to be here in the land of the great Cholas who established India's historical civilization links through trade and education. The court had given the Centre six weeks to frame the scheme on the verdict.

From the airport, Modi was taken in a helicopter to Mahabalipuram helipad from where he was driven to the venue of the DefExpo 2018, a biennial military systems exhibition being attended by close to 680 Indian and foreign firms. He was received by Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Pandit, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, and deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam.

Interestingly, PM Modi avoided any reference to the Cauvery in his public speeches.

The party said if staring at a defeat in the 2019 election, the government sits on fast, then how will they run a democracy.

Ahead of Modi's arrival at the airport here around 9 AM, protestors began congregating at several locations in groups in its vicinity.
