After what could be considered the most chaotic week in UFC history - perhaps even mixed martial arts history - Khabib Nurmagomedov's hopes of becoming the next UFC Lightweight Champion are still alive.

McGregor appeared in court in NY on Friday charged with assault and criminal mischief.

Iaquinta was drafted in after Max Holloway was forced out of his own attempt to step in as a late replacement after doctors ruled it wasn't safe for him to continue to cut weight for the title fight.

The episode also offers firsthand glimpses into the collateral damage caused to other fighters on the UFC 223 card and UFC staff members.

However, he was quickly stripped of the featherweight title and has never defended his lightweight crown.

Asked at a news conference on Friday whether he could foresee McGregor ever fighting in the UFC again, the organisation's president Dana White said he was not sure. He is being arraigned right now and dealing with what he has to deal with. He appeared in court in NY on Friday charged with assault and criminal mischief.

"Next week I'm going to go home and figure out how this whole thing plays out", he added. The fight was rescheduled for UFC on Fox 19 just four months later, but fluid in Ferguson's lungs cancelled that April 2016 bout, leaving Nurmagomedov to face Darrell Horcher instead.

In the night's main event, undefeated Dagestani fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov clashes with Al Iaquinta.

Then original headliner Max Holloway was pulled from the lightweight title showdown against Nurmagomedov after the athletic commission ruled that it would be risky for him to make weight for the bout.
