Avengers: Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo announced Coon's involvement in an interview with British magazine RadioTimes.

The 37-year-old actress has made her name in TV, most recently in The Leftovers and Fargo, for which she was nominated for an Emmy; she has also appeared in The Post and Gone Girl.

As far as what fans can anticipate Proxima Midnight getting up to in Avengers: Infinity War, the film's trailers tease that she'll assist Thanos in capturing Vision (Paul Bettany), go head to head with Captain America (Chris Evans) and his band of Nomads, and possibly even repeat history by taking down Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) once more.

Proxima Midnight is the sole female in Thanos' Black Order. "It's serialised storytelling without question so there is going to be a correlation, narratively, but we really wanted to make two distinct movies", Anthony said. She's also known to wield a spear with the power of a trapped star which Thanos created himself.

The Russos have previously revealed Irish actor Tom Vaughn-Lawlor was voicing the Black Order's Ebony Maw and Terry Notary is voicing Cull Obsidian.

"I know you have been waiting patiently for a few hours or more and some of you all day long", Joe, one half of the Russo brothers, told the screaming fans. Another interesting tidbit from her original Marvel Comics storyline: she's married to another Black Order henchman, Corvus Glaive. Many believe that Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones) is locked into that role. They attended a press conference and a red carpet event where about 7,500 local movie fans gathered to see them.

Ten days out from the USA debut of "Avengers: Infinity War" and we now know that Carrie Coon will play spear-wielding alien supervillain Proxima Midnight.

Do you think it's a mistake that Avengers: Infinity War will not feature Silver Surfer?
