From Chad he briefly visited Nigeria for the final stage of his mini-African tour.

His meeting with the president was announced by Buhari's Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad on Twitter.

NAIJ.com previously reported that Tillerson would arrive in Abuja on Monday, March 12 for his first official visit to Nigeria.

Chad previous year was stunned to find itself on one of six mainly-Muslim countries whose countries are affected by President Donald Trump's travel ban.

Tillerson was in the landlocked African country only for a few hours under a compressed time frame after he cut short his tour to the continent by a day to deal with North Korea and other pressing matters.

"The placement of Chad in this list was an injustice done to Chad", Foreign Minister Mahamat Zene Cherif said.

The State Department said Chad is an "important partner" in the fight against terrorist groups and the country had made crucial steps to increase power over its security apparatus.

"So, the United States is ready to engage and coordinate efforts as well".

Tillerson was speaking in the capital N'Djamena, said a report on Chad's progress toward strengthening controls on passports and improving information sharing was being prepared in Washington.

The various versions of Trump's travel ban have faced opposition in USA courts.

Yet earlier this month, the Trump administration quietly lifted the USA ban on importing African elephant trophies, to the dismay of environmental groups who said it sends precisely the wrong message.

Tillerson, 65, cancelled some events in Kenya on Saturday, saying he was feeling unwell.

Tillerson's week-long, five-country visit to Africa came amid other urgent foreign policy developments, including Thursday's announcement that U.S. President Donald Trump will meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
