Hawking was courageous in many ways - and he was also an incredibly brilliant thinker who revolutionized science and modern cosmology.

The world-famous British theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, who died on Wednesday at the age of 76, was known as much for his profound and witty comments as his scientific discoveries. Even the heavy neurodegeneration didn't impede him from doing science.

"Caius is Stephen - they have been intertwined for over 50 years", added Sir Alan, who first met Prof Hawking in 1965. As a matter of fact, Hawking's work has more impact than Einstein and Newton's as it is a guiding research in present and more years to come.

In science, the contributions of Stephen Hawking are recognized by the world's physical community. Having been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neurological disease that affects motor function, at age 21, he lived with the condition for 55 years, communicating and getting around with the help of a customized computer and wheelchair.

I try to fill my Twitter feed with the thoughts and ideas of Elon Musk, the creator mentality of Mythbuster Adam Savage, along with Bill Nye and Neal deGrasse Tyson's attempts to make science cool, and other insights from science-y people.

He said: "What a privilege it was to know Stephen Hawking".

In a statement to USA Today, Dr. Lucie Bruijn from the ALS Association says that the lifespan of Hawking was "exceptional". On the one hand, it was inspiring to witness that, seemingly, the power of will and intellect can hold such a serious illness at bay for so long.

Despite his atheistic worldview, though, Hawking believed the world had meaning. Other than fellow scientists, those in the world of entertainment also paid their respects. And Status Quo...but I left after 20 minutes, they were awful'. In the statement, he wrote, "Today, the world lost a giant among men, whose impact can not be overstated".

Consolmagno, who like Pope Francis is a Jesuit, told SIR, the news agency of the Italian Bishops Conference, that Hawking had studied at Cambridge with a priest who had worked at the Vatican observatory, and that the two scientists had remained good friends for life. The cast of "The Big Bang Theory" is especially feeling the loss, as he appeared on the show many times. Co-star Kaley Cuoco wrote, "He made us laugh and we made him laugh".

There are lessons all of us can learn from Hawking - largely his ability to maintain a positive outlook on life despite challenges.

Fans might remember that Hawking made multiple guest appearances on the hit comedy show, where he showcased his comedic chops.

"I have been lucky to work in theoretical physics at a fascinating time and it's one of the few areas in which my disability was not a serious handicap".
