During the Sonic themed SXSW 2018 panel held earlier today, SEGA have announced that Sonic Mania Plus is now in development and is projected to be released this summer. Tee Lopes, who did the music for Sonic Mania, will be handling the music. One of those projects was Sonic Mania Plus, a definitive physical edition of last year's critically acclaimed 2D Sonic game. The new content will also become available as an update to the original Sonic Mania.

As noted in the teaser, the shoes will drop this June 2018, given only a pixelated view of the upcoming release. The game, set for a Summer 2018 release, will boast a DLC pack's worth of new content, which includes a four-player competition mode and a new Encore Mode that will provide a new way to play the game. Both debuted in the 1993 isometric arcade spin-off, SegaSonic the Hedgehog, and most recently had a cameo in Sonic Generations. The panel was helmed by Sonic Product Development Director Austin Keys, Sonic Mania Animation Director Tyson Hesse, and TV Animation Production Coordinator Jasmin Hernandez. The package, which will be sold for $29.99, will come with a holographic slip cover, a reversible sleeve that looks like a Sega Genesis box on the other side, and a 32-page art book. The video provided blurry glimpses of a racing vehicle, followed by an obscured logo with only an "R" lit up. Also revealed at the panel was a collaboration with Puma to make the RS-0 Sonic trainers, as shown in the trailer below.

Sega has just teased a brand new Sonic Racing game but, at the moment, we have no idea what it is going to be or what it will be called.
