"This is a big jump with new technologies", Yu said, explaining why the P Series nomenclature went to P20 from P10 instead of P11. The screen has an 18.7:9 format and a resolution of 2244x1080 pixels in FHD+. However, unlike other Android smartphones, the notch on the Huawei P20 is quite smaller which makes it a bit less annoying. Instead of OLED, with its flawless black level and vivid colours, the Huawei P20 has an RGBW LCD screen. A 'Lite' version was introduced earlier to complete the range. It actually has a glass rear panel, which seems to be the trend these days. On the front, the device has a 16MP camera.

The triple camera is exclusive to the P20 Pro, but that's not the end of the differences. The projection is fortunately less pronounced than in the View 10. That hasn't always been the case with Huawei phones. It has an eight-megapixel telephoto lens, a 20-megapixel black and white lens and a main 40-megpixel RGB sensor on the back.

The two cameras protrude from the frame.

The camera can record 4K video.

United Kingdom pricing is yet to be announced but it's likely the P20 Pro will cost around £800.

The camera application isn't very different. There is a 24MP front-facing camera as well. Still, this is the first triple-lens camera, so there's definitely some magic being done there that we'll be learning more about.

The P20 has a 5.8in FHD+ LCD while the larger P20 Pro has a 6.1in FHD+ OLED screen, both with a notch at the top similar to Apple's iPhone X containing a 24-megapixel selfie camera.

The phone also uses artificial intelligence to boost your photos.

Huawei P20 vs Huawei P10 Design: Do they look the same?

The device unfortunately doesn't come with a 3.5 mm jack.

Huawei, which overtook Apple in November past year to become the world's second-biggest smartphone vendor, unveiled the P20 line at the Grand Palais in one of the most photographed cities in the world, underscoring its camera capabilities. Indeed, the P20's IP53 rating means the phone is protected from dust ingress but not submersion in water, only a light spray. Perhaps the bigger surprise is the under display fingerprint reader.

Light is about to become a central theme in Huawei's latest phones, where it's about what the camera does with all the light in your life. It also enables face unlock. Oh, and did we say there's a fingerprint scanner below the display which also supports navigation gestures so that you don't have to rely on on-screen navigation buttons? The latest Kirin chip, along with 6 GB of RAM and the generous 128 GB of internal memory that can be further expanded via microSD all promise good performance.

Huawei said its new devices are created to deliver professional photography features in a smartphone, and all P20 series phones sport high-resolution front cameras in addition to improved rear camera systems.

The price in the European market has already been announced at 679 euros, which is around $840.

Another major feature is slow motion video at 960fps, something that we've recently seen from Samsung in the Galaxy S9.

Premium add-ons like a color temperature sensor and all kinds of stuff used for intuitive, precise focus (laser autofocus, phase detection, 4D predictive focus) only bring the Huawei P20 Pro closer to DSLR territory. It was incredibly dark, but where a lesser phone would capture a vague dimness from the backlighting, the P20's night mode captured real detail and depth with little appreciable noise. What are its chance of competing with Samsung?

Here's what you need to know.
