Donald Trump's Body Man John McEntee Leaves White House; Rejoins Campaign

McEntee was sacked and escorted out of the White House Monday, CNN reported, due to difficulties obtaining a permanent security clearance, an issue that has led to the departure of several White House staffers.

John McEntee, who served as the President's personal assistant, was escorted out, according to two people close to the White House who spoke on condition of anonymity. In February, special counsel Robert Mueller filled fraud charges against former Trump campaign associates Paul Manafort and Rick Gates, accusing Manafort of being part of a decade-long money laundering scheme.

Kelly, the White House chief of staff, has said in recent weeks that too many staff members were operating on interim security clearances because they could not pass Federal Bureau of Investigation background checks.

Angella Reid - May 5, 2017: The first female White House chief usher was dismissed for reasons that seemed unclear to her at the time, although Axios reports that she was "considered mean" by staffers.

Trump's campaign hired him soon after he was sacked from his White House job.

"We don't comment on personnel issues", White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters. And it highlights the extent to which the re-election campaign has already become a landing pad for former Trump associates who have left the White House but remain loyal to the President. Just as with Rob Porter, who got bounced from his job a few weeks ago, McEntee appeared to have near-universal access to the president.

McEntee indicated to colleagues that there was an issue in his background that may have prevented him from gaining full security clearance and led to his dismissal, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday. "We need the help of porven leaders such as Katrina and John to promote the President's growing portfolio of achievements across the country".

CNN, meanwhile, reported that he was under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for financial crimes.

McEntee, though, will continue to work for Trump.
