After Lenin, Periyar, Ambedkar, Mookerjee, now Gandhi's statue vandalized in Kerela

The news comes at a time when there have been multiple instances of statue vandalisation across the country started after Lenin's statue was razed in Tripura by BJP supporters.

Kannur: The desecration of statues in India continues as in Kannur, Kerala, a statue of Mahatma Gandhi was vandalized on Thursday, reported the NDTV.

Gandhi's bust near the Thaliparamba taluk office was found defaced in the morning with its spectacle carving damaged and a garland on it seen lying nearby.

Police officials also added that an investigation has been launched in this regard and the miscreant will soon be caught.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had yesterday strongly condemned the vandalism and warned of stern action against the guilty. Reports state that the supporters chanted "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" while the statue was pulled down.

The police confirmed that there was no political motive behind the incident in Taliparamba. The Home Ministry on Wednesday issued an advisory to states asking them to take all necessary precautions to prevent such incidents.

On Tuesday night, a statue of Dalit icon BR Ambedkar was vandalised and later replaced in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. "Persons indulging in such acts must be sternly dealt with and booked under relevant provisions of law", the MHA said.

On March 6, Just 48 hours after the 25 year long Left rule ended in Tripura, a statue of Lenin, that stood in the heart of Belonia town in Tripura, was brought down by celebrating BJP supporters amid chants of 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'.
