Stefanski is expected to continue to coach quarterbacks under Vikings new offensive coordinator John DeFilippo, forcing NY to look elsewhere. It was expected that since Stefanski had been passed over by the Vikings that he would then be named Shurmur's offensive coordinator in NY.

The Vikings feel good enough about Stefanski that they want him to remain in their organization-but it could be a matter of them seeing DeFilippo as readier for the job since he had been an OC in the past, and Stefanski has not. There are few coaches in the league more equipped to deal with that kind of situation than Shurmur. Either he will be promoted to that role with the Minnesota Vikings or he will join Pat Shurmur and will that role with the New York Giants.

The Vikings officially hired DeFilippo on Friday, and they still made a decision to keep the 35-year-old Stefanski, who has been with them since 2006.

Shurmur was hired as head coach of the New York Giants on January 22. In those three games, including a 38-7 victory over the Vikings in the NFC championship game, Foles threw for 971 yards, six touchdowns and only one interception for a 115.7 passer rating.

Darrell Bevell, the former Seahawks offensive coordinator, is not under contract and thus immediately available, but there is a chance Bevell is headed to Indianapolis to serve as Reich's offensive coordinator.

DeFilippo could have waited to see if Eagles offensive Frank Reich becomes the head coach of the Colts, which made have led to his promotion with the Super Bowl champions.

"We really sat down and spent some time with Nick and what he felt comfortable doing, and to me, that's coaching", DeFilippo said. He has yet to hire an offensive coordinator or a quarterbacks coach. He, along with Shurmur, turned Case Keenum from a career journeyman into one of the NFL's best quarterbacks last season. "I'm a team player", DeFilippo said on a conference call with reporters.

Super Bowl brain drain underway in Philadelphia.

Try as the Vikings might, it's not feasible to expect sustainable success if the QB turnstile keeps spinning at the rate it has during Spielman's 11 seasons, when seven QBs have taken opening-day snaps and five - Jackson, Favre, Joe Webb, Bridgewater and Keenum - have started playoff games.
