Uber launches Express Pool service

Express Pool works much like UberPool in that it enables riders to share their journeys with others heading in the same general direction for cheaper fares. After the match, riders will be directed to walk a few extra blocks to their pickup location, where (if Uber's algorithm worked the way its supposed to) they'll hopefully meet one or two additional riders who've also been matched with the same driver.

In addition to having to walk a little prior to the journey, riders will also have to walk a bit at the end of their journey to reach their final destination.

Stock says Uber's new service will help transit agencies by giving riders easier access to transit hubs and that the company has already coordinated with Cincinnati on a possible partnership.

A new way to Uber is coming to Florida, but the "Express Pool" feature is only rolling out in Miami and seven of other cities to start.

"Riders wait a few minutes before their trips begin, and then walk a short distance to a nearby spot for pick up and drop off", Uber shared rides product director Ethan Stock said in a release. San Francisco and Boston have had the Express Pool since last November, the Verge adds.

The goal is to make the overall ride faster and more direct for all users.

The idea of Express is to eliminate the often maze-like path traditional Uber POOLs can take as drivers make their way to new passengers, Uber says.

Although fares could rival public transportation costs, Express Pool will be significantly more expensive during times of surge pricing.

The company now has an array of services, including UberSUV for big groups and the popular UberX, which pairs riders with drivers using their own cars.

Ridesharing provider Uber is launching a new service in Denver that will feel familiar to anyone who has ever ridden a city bus.

Ride on Uber Express is up to 30% cheaper than on Uberpool and up to 75% less than a regular Uber ride.

Even as the company has seen unprecedented growth by expanding to dozens of countries, Uber has been hurt by allegations of executive misconduct, a toxic work atmosphere, and potentially unethical competitive practices. "Everything about the Express Pool product is dynamic". The company plans to bring it to more USA cities in the coming weeks and months.

"People loved the price, but they had mixed feelings about the experience", Stock said of Uber Pool.
