Mbalula said because of the sensitivity and seriousness of these matters, it was not possible for the Hawks or his office to provide a minute-by-minute account of the investigations and asked the public to be patient.

It is understood the Hawks have been investigating charges of fraud, money laundering and corruption against members and associates of the Gupta family.

Duduzane Zuma, former President Jacob Zuma's son, is reportedly being sought for his alleged role in the Free State's dairy farm scandal.

"More arrests are expected", Mulaudzi added.

According to eNCA, sources have said that the raid is related to the Vrede dairy project in the Free State, where the Guptas have been accused of allegedly siphoning R220 million meant to benefit poor farmers.

Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi would not confirm the names of the people arrested and would only say that so far, three people have been arrested and two other suspects were expected to hand themselves over.

Duduzane's property is located about two blocks from the Guptas' compound.

The Guptas' lawyer Ahmed Gani has, however, denied that any of the Gupta brothers were arrested at their Saxonwold home saying it was merely "speculation". Mkhwebane directed Free State premier Ace Magashule to institute disciplinary proceedings against all implicated officials involved in the project and submit a report to the public protector on the action he would take once a disciplinary process had been concluded.

This was the culmination of a sting operation that started before 6am.

Two cars of the elite police unit were seen parked outside the mega homestead. A bevy of guards, clad in black, were seen opening the gates for vehicles that drove in and out.

"You wouldn't believe the size of the compound. It's one of the 17 complex cases that were prioritised regarding state capture", the source said.

The home remained guarded by private security guards.

The politicians in question include Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane, who was the Free State MEC for agriculture at the time.

The publication said it was told by a senior source within the security cluster that the unnamed Gupta brother would be appearing in court alongside Thabethe.
