Mayor: Slain police officer was a young father

Sheriff McBrayer said one deputy is in serious condition and the other is in fair condition.

Henry County's sheriff said the man who shot the officers is dead.

Sheriff McBrayer said his deputies went to the home to serve an arrest warrant late Friday morning.

One of the deputies was Michael Corley, 49, whose brother told reporters that Corley asked for prayers and to see his kids, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

When he wouldn't cooperate, they called the Locust Grove officer for backup, McBrayer said.

Sources tell FOX 5's Morse Diggs the warrant was for a failure-to-appear on a traffic citation.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating. Price said the 26-year-old officer's wife is pregnant and expecting their second child any day.

Henry County Sheriff Keith McBrayer announced the death at an afternoon news conference.

GBI spokeswoman Nelly Miles said the suspect's relatives were being notified before his name is released.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are now on the scene of an officer-involved shooting at a home on St. Francis Court in Locust Grove.

At least three Georgia officers were shot in Locust Grove in Henry County on Friday morning, WSB-TV reported. They turned away people who don't live in the neighborhood.

Nearby Locust Grove Elementary School was put on lockdown.
