However, according to recent U.S. public opinion polls, over a third of Americans think that the first lady Melania Trump should leave president Donald Trump, following reports of an alleged affair with adult star Stormy Daniels. "I slept with you because you I like you".

President Donald Trump's political troubles with alleged extramarital affairs deepened Friday with publication of new details of his reported sexual relationship with a former Playboy model.

During the Lake Tahoe tournament, McDougal and Trump had sex, she wrote.

The payment to McDougal by American Media was originally reported by the Wall Street Journal on November 4, 2016.

McDougal, who confirmed the authenticity of her notes in an interview with New Yorker writer Ronan Farrow, said she was speaking out in part because of the #MeToo movement.

The White House told the magazine Trump denies having an affair with McDougal.

The story relies heavily on the firsthand account of Karen McDougal, a former Playmate of the Year, who recounts her consensual affair with the current president before he was elected. "It took my rights away", McDougal told me. "This is an old story that is just more fake news", according to the statement. However, no comments were made by the White House on the incident.

Farrow wrote that a friend of McDougal's named John Crawford provided the New Yorker with an eight-page document handwritten by the model, in which she described her alleged tryst with the future president from beginning to end.

"She feels she was trapped into an exploitative contract that bound her to silence, and that's something that she finds very frustrating", Farrow told Good Morning America Friday.

The story said Ms McDougal was paid $150,000 during the 2016 presidential campaign for the rights to her account of an affair with any "then-married man" by the supermarket tabloid National Enquirer, which never ran it.

The Farrow piece accused AMI chairman David Pecker, a personal friend of President Trump, of burying the story. She says Trump flew her around the country for public events, but never paid for her travel directly, always preferring to reimburse her after she paid for it. Trump also promised to buy her an apartment, an offer he never followed through on.

McDougal met Trump at a poolside party in June 2006 at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles, according to The New Yorker. All three also say they were escorted to the bungalow by Keith Schiller, a longtime Trump bodyguard who left his job in September as the director of Oval Office operations and deputy assistant to the president. In that case, Trump's attorney Michael Cohen said this week he paid Daniels $130,000 to stay quiet.
