Still, Black Panther's record Tuesday beats the record-holder for pre-summer, Beauty and the Beast previous year with $17.8 million, and also beats the record holder in the Marvel Universe, The Avengers, at $17 million.

Critics have expressed overwhelming support, and the film now has a 97% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. In fact, Ryan Coogler's opening weekend for Black Panther is the highest for any non-white director, surpassing James Wan's $147 million (Rs 953 crore) for Furious 7 in 2016.

"Results like this go beyond anything anyone ever could have hoped for", said Dave Hollis, president of global distribution at Disney. The film introduces us to the African nation of Wakanda for the first time after audiences were fed small hints about it in earlier Marvel films. Like the nation of Wakanda, "Black Panther" feels isolated from the rest of the Marvel films in that there are nearly no references to events happening outside of T'challa's personal conflict or callbacks to other films. In short, it isn't the wisest of methods to use if you're looking to sneak into a movie nonchalantly, but hey, when you're a teen, logic isn't always on your side. While initial forecasts placed Black Panther at the top of the box office, the reality surpassed every prediction made as those forecasts updated throughout the weekend.

American superhero film Black Panther has earned phenomenal moolah at the Indian box office. "But also, a big part of it too says very clearly that inclusion and representation matter". Marvel has had a #1 film with every one of their releases, but they've yet to see anything come close to the success of 2012's team-up. "Everyone deserves to see themselves reflected on that silver screen and the inspiration that comes from it". "Not only because it's the right thing to do, but it makes for better, richer storytelling".

"Just to be able to showcase strong black characters - and talking about Africa - and strong black men and women, I think that's unique", Barnes said. "Black Panther" has left his mark on Hollywood and black culture in general, and it is refreshing to see a movie with a predominantly black cast flourish.

We finally have a hint for a Black Widow standalone movie and Chris Evans, who plays the buff Captain America in Marvel Cinematic Universe is the one who did so.

It's often the case that when a film sets a new record on opening weekend, it creates a long-lasting domino effect.
