AIADMK to make changes to Jayalalithaa statue following outburst

His senior Cabinet colleague and Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar, when queried about it, said the unveiling of the statue was a matter of happiness for not just the AIADMK cadre but for all Tamils. "When we empower the women in the family, we empower the entire household". The Prime Minister said his government had given Rs 1.8 lakh crore to Tamil Nadu under the 14th Finance Commission. When we educate a woman, we ensure her family is educated.

The Prime Minister said loans to more than 11 crore people had been extended under the Mudra scheme and as much as Rs 4.6 lakh crore had been disbursed for self-employment. The scooter scheme will be launched on Saturday evening.

Elaborating on the NDA government's efforts to empower women, the prime minister said they made a change to the Factory's Act and suggested the states allow women to work night shifts as well.

The Jan Dhan Yojana has also benefited women in a big way. "Union government has so far given 3.5 crore free gas connections under this scheme".

The Tamil Nadu government will launch the scheme of Rs. 25000 subsidy for women to buy two-wheelers. I am told that on Amma's 70th birthday, 70 lakh plants will be planted across Tamil Nadu.

Palaniswami will soon lead a delegation of farmers and leaders from all parties to urge Modi to constitute the Cauvery Management Board within six weeks, as directed by the Supreme Court.

As the statue was unveiled, firecrackers were burst and candies distributed among party cadre who raised slogans hailing Jayalalithaa. Hailing Modi, Panneerselvam said the Prime Minister was "courageously leading India". The "Amma" two wheeler scheme will go a long way in empowering women in the state, he added. Registration of houses under government schemes is being done in the name of women.

The scheme, aimed at women empowerment, will provide scooters to working women at a subsidized rate of upto 50 percent.
