Wenger shocked by Dortmund criticism over Aubameyang affair

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger answered a question about transfer rumors relating to BVB striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at his news conference today, and Borussia Dortmund Sporting Director Michael Zorc didn't react too kindly to that.

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has cast doubt over Henrikh Mkhitaryan's ability to succeed at the Emirates this season.

Aubameyang has been left out of Dortmund's previous two games as it seems the Gabon global is clear about leaving North Rhine-Westphalia.

The 28-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez, who is expected to move to Manchester United.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was accused of being "disrespectful" by Zorc when he spoke about the links with Aubameyang last week.

When asked if Olivier Giroud would be moving to Dortmund as part of any deal for Aubameyang, Wenger said: "No, we are nowhere near anything with Dortmund". All the rest: "we are not close at all to anything".

Dortmund clearly missed Aubameyang's pace to create goalscoring opportunities against Hertha's well-organized defense.

"I don't know what's going on inside his head".

Aubameyang is one of the best finishers in the world and he has already netted 21 goals in 23 games for the German club this season.

Aubameyang's behaviour and poor discipline has worsened things this month, and Schurrle said that the squad had tried to talk to him about the situation, but have struggled to get through to him.

Shinji Kagawa scored Dortmund's equaliser when he stabbed in a cross by on-loan Manchester City winger Jadon Sancho, who made his second start for the Bundesliga side.

Arsenal will need to pay above £50m to sign Aubameyang.

It was the third time in just over a year that Dortmund dropped the player for disciplinary reasons.
