Mariah Carey got her redemption with a fabulous New Year's Eve performance

"They told me there would be tea", Carey said.

And don't worry, Mimi eventually got her tea.

"Oh, I'm feeling a lot better than past year, when I had to get my own police escort to walk away", she said, after Seacrest asked how she was feeling. Compared to last year, though, it was pretty tiresome, and it was a lot less singular: Minus the redemption story line, Carey's performance was in line with those by the numerous other acts who appeared on "New Year's Rockin' Eve", none memorable enough to mention here.

We didn't have a sound check for this New Year's baby, it is what it is... It's a disaster. O.K. Well, we'll just have to rough it. "We didn't have a check for this song... we're missing some of the vocals, but it is what it is".

The temperature in New York City on Sunday night was only 11 degrees during Carey's performance, which served as a redemption of sorts after the singer's debacle past year on the same stage.

Want to hear what Mariah had to say about her disastrous New Year's Eve performance in 2016?

In a weird discussion before she started, Mariah lamented the fact that there was no hot tea for her drink on stage. In sub-zero wind chill, who could blame her? While some joked about what had happened to the singer's tea, and the assistants in charge of it, per People, one user noted, "The first time life throws you a curve in 2018 just remember: Mariah Carey made it through without her hot tea". After Hero finished, the camera went back to Seacrest.

Mariah Carey took to the stage wearing a nude, low cleavage dress and white fur coat in one of the coldest New Year's Eve on record.
