Kia Plans 16 New Electrified Vehicles by 2025

Kia Motors has already announced investment of around Dollars 1.1 billion to set up a manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh. Plus its new "ACE" strategy will also make its cars more Autonomous, Connected and Eco/Electric. "At CES we will share our strategy and vision for future mobility, and exhibit a range of advanced technologies that our customers can look forward to", Dr. Woong-cheol Yang, the Vice Chairman/Head, Hyundai-Kia R&D Centre, said. The automaker says its green line-up will consist of a mixture of different electrified powertrains, from entirely battery-electric through hybrids and even a fuel-cell auto. Speaking of which, an all-new, hydrogen-powered vehicle will appear in 2020, says Kia.

At CES, Kia also showed off the Niro EV Concept, said to be next-step in the brand's journey towards electrification. There's one big and obvious change, though - the lack of a standard grille (there's no need for one in an EV), which has been swapped for an interactive display. That panel is created to display information like the battery's charge level.

Inside, there's a new wraparound design to the dashboard, finished in silver, grey, and bronze.

Because the company says it expects the Niro EV to be driven largely in "urban and suburban" usage, so it includes a new pedestrian-warning system that adds outward-pointing speakers to the usual cameras and image-processing technology.

Kia also envisages face and voice recognition being used in preference to a traditional key.

The electric powertrain delivers power from a 64kWh battery pack to the 201bhp electric motor which is enough for a 238 mile range and a 115mile splash and dash in fifteen minutes charge. The idea behind this is to let users at the front and back listen to different music if they like without disturbing each other or without having to use headphones.

Alongside its new technologies, Kia has revealed plans to roll-out its "WiBLE" car-sharing service - launched in Korea previous year - to new regions from 2018, starting with Europe.

Right on the heels of introducing the plug-in hybrid Niro, Kia is previewing an all-electric version of the small wagon.
