Our models project Thomas for 12.7 FanDuel points over 11.9 minutes in Tuesday's game. They still may have not reached their ultimate goal, but there have been moments that will never be forgotten by any players or fans and will go into the new year with one of the most exciting cores in the National Basketball Association.

It was quickly noted, though, that Thomas will not be able to play in a much anticipated match-up against his former team in the Boston Celtics on Wednesday. Getting in shape. Timing. The recently traded point guard, who was shipped from the Celtics to the Cavaliers over the summer, emphasized that it wasn't about him when a Twitter used pointed out that Thomas' ego was bigger than his teammate's, LeBron James. He can't get frustrated thinking it's going to happen overnight.

The Washington product set a career-high with 28.9 points per game last season while shooting 37.9 percent from three-point range and earning All-NBA Second Team honors.

Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue made it clear that Thomas, despite being a projected starter, will come off the bench and his minutes will be restricted. "But we're very excited to have him back".

"I know where I am right now, and I wouldn't want to put myself out there to just try to force it", Thomas said. But they've got to be patient and stay the course. To get back to the NBA Finals, and to beat the Golden State Warriors, the Cavaliers have to find a way of improving on the defensive side of the ball. It would be highly unlikely he'd be peak Isaiah Thomas in his first game back from injury. This will be the first game for the Cavaliers this year, and it will also be the first game for the point guard in a Cavs jersey.

In a New York Times piece published on Monday, Benjamin Hoffman pointed out the importance of Thomas' return to play in finally allowing Lue to settle on a starting point guard.
