And according to Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, "all signs are pointing" to Patricia being the next head coach of the Giants.

While Patricia, 43, doesn't have the head coaching experience Giants co-owner John Mara is seeking, he has been a part of three Super Bowl titles in New England, including two as defensive coordinator.

If Patricia does go to the Giants, watch out for Texans assistant and former Patriots linebacker Mike Vrabel in Detroit.

The New England Patriots defensive coordinator is likely to leave the team this offseason and has already been strongly linked with the Detriot Lions' head coaching job.

All signs pointed to Patricia taking over in Detroit, where he interviewed with during New England's postseason bye week. According to National Football League rules, Patricia can not execute a contract until the Patriots' season ends. He also thinks Patricia and new general manager Dave Gettleman would be on the same page in terms of putting that strong defensive team together.

Among his playing experience in the trenches and success improving the Pats' defense, the coordinator also has a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering from R.P.I. and a master's in education, which the Daily News believes is enough to fit the franchise's needs.

He would take over for Steve Spagnuolo, the Giants' interim head coach who stepped in after Ben McAdoo was sacked after Week 13 of a nightmare 2017 season.

Matt Patricia's head coaching candidacy has taken a bit of misdirection.
