Everton manager Sam Allardyce had confirmed on Thursday that Barkley's departure from Merseyside is just a matter of when, not if.

As stated by the Daily Mail, the fifth-placed side are said to be keeping tabs on the 24-year-old, who has struggled to find his way into Barca's starting XI with any regularity since the appointment of Ernesto Valverde at the Camp Nou.

"Ross Barkley to have medical today at Chelsea Fee in region of £15m", Paul Joyce was quoted as saying in his tweet.

Chelsea are very, very close to announcing their first signing of the January transfer window.

According to reports Chelsea are expected to strike a £15m deal with the Toffees for the England global, whose contract at Goodison Park concludes at the end of this season.

It remains to be seen whether Pochettino has lined up another target, which could have changed his mind about signing Barkley.

The England global has less than six months left on his contract at Goodison Park and Tottenham was hoping to get him for free in the summer.

Barkley has yet to play this season after having hamstring surgery following a training injury but is now approaching match fitness.

He had been heavily linked with move to Tottenham Hotspur throughout the summer, with Mauricio Pochettino thought to be a huge admirer of the England global, however it looks as though his future lies at Premier League Champions Chelsea, just days after Antonio Conte moaned about not getting the olayers he asked for.
