They also said: The Gunners are resigned to losing Alexis in January and have informed City that they want around £35 million for the Chilean.

Alexis was left out of Arsenal's squad for the trip to the City ground. The Chilean global has been linked with PSG, Bayern Munich and even Real Madrid over the past few months, but now the Gunners' top flight rivals Manchester City are set to make a significant bid.

Arsenal's Shkodran Mustafi is reluctant to be drawn into a debate regarding the futures of "top class players" Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

The signing has strengthened talk of Jonny Evans, Samuel Umtiti or Inigo Martinez singing as City go in search of another defender.

And Man City are the favourites to land the 29-year-old.

Pep Guardiola's side are, for now, favourites to pursue the Chilean following a knee injury to Gabriel Jesus, but the club feel the valuation is too high for a player, who could be available for a Bosman in five months' time.

Additionally, with Jesus set for a stint on the sidelines, Sanchez would help preserve the dynamism and fluidity that has been a trademark of this City attack in 2017-18.

Alexis Sanchez's move to Manchester City will undoubtedly happen in the coming weeks but Arsenal's decision to sell at that price is seriously in question.

Arsenal are reportedly ready to allow Alexis Sanchez to leave during the January transfer window after deciding that they do not want to lose the forward on free transfer in the summer.

City face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday and would need to register the former Barcelona man on Friday for him to participate against Jurgen Klopp's men.
