After an initial misunderstanding, Arsenal have been made aware that Valencia are expecting to be paid to remove Francis Coquelin from the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin has officially sealed his exit from the club after nearly a decade in north London by joining Valencia in La Liga.

And amid rumours of a reported £12million move for Coquelin, Wenger confirmed the 26-year-old is on his way out of Arsenal.

The midfielder has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract at Mestalla, including an €80million release clause.

"I am very happy, it is a big challenge, it is the start of a new life for me, therefore I am very excited about it", Coquelin said in a statement.

"I have seen the team, they are going along very well, they are third in the table".

Discussing Coquelin's imminent departure to Valencia, Wenger added: "He goes to Valencia because he didn't get enough games with us this season".

Cancelo feels he hasn't been getting sufficient game time which could affect his chances of playing at the World Cup and he wants to return to Spain with Los Che also wanting him back. "I let him go", Wenger said after Wednesday's 0-0 draw with Chelsea.

"What he is doing at the moment will help him develop as a player because he plays in a different position but at some stage I will play him in at defensive midfield".
