At least 12 people were injured early on Tuesday after a huge fire tore through an apartment building in NY, reports said.

The fire started inside of 1547 Commonwealth Ave. near E. Tremont Avenue just after 5:30 a.m., fire officials say.

There are twelve apartments above the store.

The massive fire comes less than a week after another fire, caused by a child playing with a stove, killed at least 12 people, including several children.

The FDNY said more than 200 firefighters were battling the blaze, and that 16 people - including nine children - suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Dozens of fire trucks were at the scene as thick smoke poured out of the building and flames were through the roof.

"I woke up my husband, my kids and said listen there's a fire in the building", she said.

A fire destroyed a building and injured 23 people in NY yesterday, just days after the city's deadliest inferno in a quarter of a century.

"Our units arrived and were immediately faced with heavy fire". That inferno killed 12 people, four of them children.
