Reciprocating the offer with warmth, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan said that Pakistan looks forward to harbouring a favourable cooperation in future exchanges and trade with China in various fields.

Abdullah also called for full membership of Afghanistan in the organisation in order to further enhance cooperation and achieve progress between the SCO and Afghanistan. India and Pakistan joined SCO as full members on 9 June 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan.

The prime minister along with his other SCO counterparts will participate in the SCO retreat being hosted by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. The retreat would be followed by a plenary session of the CHG, where Abbasi would deliver a speech.

The annual SCO summit will be held on November 30 and December 1 and is likely to discuss issues related to the regional security scenario including the situation in the Gulf and Afghanistan.

Li told reporters that both China and Russian Federation will play a constructive role to "strengthen communication and coordination on global affairs, and cement cooperation within multilateral frameworks including the SCO".

The SCO was founded in 2001, built on the foundations of a former organization - the Shanghai Five - and now includes China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikstan and Uzbekistan.

"EAM @SushmaSwaraj leaves for Sochi, Russia to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government Meeting - home to 42 % of world's population and 20% of its GDP". But there are still no plans to have a bilateral meeting with Pakistani leaders.
