Coutinho, restored to an advanced role in Liverpool's attacking triumvirate, cut inside onto his right foot and curled a sumptuous shot into the top right corner of the net, which Swansea goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski could only stand and admire.

Alexander-Arnold's was one of four goals scored in the second half, as Roberto Firmino's double and a an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain strike also added to Philippe Coutinho's early opener.

"That they will cross, that they will shoot, it happens in a football game".

Jurgen Klopp has insisted he builds a "defending approach" to his tactics as Liverpool manager.

"In the first half we did OK and we stepped it up in the second half".

"If you just look at the first half, the way we started, the way we played, the way we defended and attacked then I'd have to say we lost those two points", said Klavan.

"You look afterwards, 5-0, and you think, "easy game".

"I don't really remember the game from previous year, to be honest". I'm really happy with what we learned from the game.

That was made even more apparent in their last outing against Arsenal, where after going 2-0 up, they conceded three goals in the space of just five minutes on route to an entertaining 3-3 draw.

"It was a huge turning point", said Britton. As players, we've all been in situations where it's hard afternoons, but you still remain professional and do the right things and do the right job for the team.

"Today it [my goal] wasn't so crucial as we were leading by a few, but I need to keep doing that".

Germany global midfielder Emre Can has retained expected to retain his place in Klopp's starting eleven after providing the assist for his side's third goal against Arsenal.

Leon Britton expects to remain in charge for Swansea City's match away to Watford on Saturday and has called for the club to urgently reinforce the squad in January.

"I haven't spoken to the chairman since Christmas Eve because I have been involved in the game but as far as I am aware I will be in charge for training tomorrow and for the Watford game".
