Killed in Fiery Oceanside Crash on I-5

At least one person was killed in a fiery crash today on Interstate 5 in Oceanside just north of Route 76, according to authorities.

California Highway Patrol troopers reported at 6:15 p.m. that they had finished their work at the crash scene and authorities would try to start southbound traffic moving again. As a result of the impact, one auto caught on fire.

The crash shut down the highway's southbound lanes overnight. The CHP issued a SigAlert at 5:44 p.m.

Two more people were transported to hospitals.

Walcott said the driver who hit the patrol auto was taken to a hospital.

News 8's Chris Gros reports at least three cars were involved in what possibly is two crashes.

The victims' names were withheld pending notification of next of kin; their ages and genders were not immediately known.
