Jesse Lingard double makes Arsenal pay for misses

HERE is our combined Arsenal and Manchester United XI.

Until Pogba's dismissal, everything had looked flawless for United, for whom David De Gea was outstanding and was beaten only by Alexandre Lacazette just after the interval.

It was a pulsating contest from start to finish at Emirates Stadium, with a glut of shots on goal, incredible goalkeeping, a sending off, and textbook counter-attacks.

He said the performance had been so impressive that he could not think of enough superlatives, adding: "I think it was a phenomenal game". "If I was in the stands, or if I was at home watching, I would be sad to see the game finish. A bit disappointed with this colleague, Koscielny, with this kind of reaction", Mourinho said.

"We scored two quick goals but at the end of the first half we lost control of the game".

Pogba mimicked Bellerin's movement to his audience, who also shared a joke with him. Valencia struck a low shot that went in between goalkeeper Petr Cech's legs in the fourth minute.

"The concentration at the back wasn't sharp enough at the start", Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said.

Before this week, Jesse Lingard's only goals for Manchester United this season had come in the Carabao Cup, against Burton Albion and Swansea City, in games that have already been largely forgotten. Midfielder Aaron Ramsey was onside when he touched the ball back to Lacazette who fired it past De Gea.

De Gea made an fantastic pair of stops on Lacazette and Alexis Sanchez in the 56th minute. "He played well", Mourinho said in his post-match press conference.

But the home side's optimism for a comeback was then snuffed out in the 63rd when United hit Arsenal on the break.

It was 3-1 after the hour mark thanks to another Arsenal giveaway, with Pogba turning Laurent Koscielny inside out before passing through the six for Lingard to tap home.

While his "studs up" tackle on Bellerin in the 75th minute was a poor one, Mourinho felt some of the Arsenal players had hounded referee Andre Marriner to send Pogba off.

His rivalries with Guardiola - whose side, now eight points clear of United at the top of the Premier League, United play at Old Trafford on December 10 - and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger are both well documented.
