Instagram has a new feature that adds 'recommended' posts to your feed

Instagram has been updating its app to add new features or to spiff up old ones. The only difference is that, until now you had to head to the Explore section to view the recommended posts, and now they will all be cluttering your home feed. Instagram will make the recommendations based on posts liked by other accounts that you do follow. Many Instagram users have shown their displeasure over this matter via Twitter as they prefer the old chronological home feed. In early December, the social media platform rolled out testing for their "Recommended for You" section. These posts are suggested based on posts liked by accounts you follow.

One can switch it off by tapping on the three dot options button above the post and choosing the "Hide" option. Sharing a unique coupon code or special promotion offer on Instagram can also be very helpful. The recommended shots, which are clearly labeled as such, will of course be selected by Instagram's carefully designed algorithms in the hope that each image will pique your interest and prompt you to follow whoever took it.

This is being perceived as a big change made by Instagram.

As announced, Instagram is bringing their new feature to their apps. With these new changes, Instagram users will not only see stories and posts from accounts they follow but additional, relevant content from their wider network. Unfortunately, this would need to be done for each individual "Recommended for You" post that appears in your feed. Users may be less inclined to hit "like" when posts are more prominently visible to their friends.

As far as we know, there's no way to opt out of this new feature apart from temporarily hiding it whenever it appears on your timeline. Nonetheless, Instagram has already started rolling out the new update and it's just a matter of time before you start seeing it on your feed.
