How To Follow Hashtags On Instagram With The App's New, MAJOR Update

Instagram is rolling out a massive new update to its platform today.

Like it or not, hashtags have always been a big part of Instagram more than any other social network. Plus, if you share your posts with certain hashtags, you also have the opportunity to reach a broader set of users if you are lucky enough.

Either search for a hashtag you're interested in or tap on one from a post in your timeline and you'll see a pop-up telling you that following hashtags is now possible. "You would begin to see the best posts from the said hashtag on your feed, as well as several of the newest Stories on the Stories row", the statement said.

According to The Verge, Matthew Ogle led the charge for this feature; he was behind the Discover Weekly playlist at Spotify, which relies on both machine learning and a human hand to curate a personalized playlist for each listener every week.

You can see all the hashtags you follow by going to your Instagram profile, clicking following and looking under the Hashtags tab.

As it is with following a friend, the hashtag is included in the user's "Following" list and can subsequently be unfollowed at any time. So maybe I will finally start opening Instagram as much as I open up Twitter or Snapchat.
