Sam Bradford undergoes surgery

Bradford, who missed six of the past seven games with a left knee injury, had arthroscopic surgery Tuesday.

Following Bridgewater's injury a year ago, the Vikings traded for Sam Bradford, who opened this season with a 346-yards, three-touchdown opening win game against the New Orleans Saints - a 29-19 Vikings victory. Bradford turned 30 today and made it through just one game this season.

When Bridgewater is fully ready to come back, this will not be a quarterback controversy. I'm sorry I'm boring.

Keenum is 4-2 this season as a starter. Zimmer declined to speculate about when Bridgewater might become the starter again. Bradford was unavailable for comment.

"It's disappointing", Zimmer told reporters Wednesday of Bradford going on IR. "The guy worked extremely hard to try to get back. Hopefully we'll be able to get him back when he gets healthy". Andrews performed surgeries on Bradford for torn left ACL injuries in 2013 and 2014. Nothing else was working, and we just had to try something. ESPN reported Andrews removed several loose particles from Bradford's knee, cleaned up some ragged cartilage and smoothed out a bone spur with the hope that it would ease the pain he has had.

Bradford was injured in Week 1 against the New Orleans Saints and re-aggravated his ailing knee again against the Chicago Bears.

Bradford saw Andrews on September 22, but it was determined then that surgery was not needed. He returned for a Monday night matchup against the Bears on October 9 but was pulled mid-game after he looked less than 100 percent. He hasn't practiced or played since. The quarterback's contract with the team ends at the conclusion of the 2017 season and he will be a free-agent during the upcoming offseason.

The Vikings faced a deadline on Wednesday at the end of the three-week window that opened when Bridgewater resumed practice with the team. The Vikings need to either let a player go or place one on injured reserve to clear up a spot on their roster.

"He's done excellent" in practice, Zimmer said. "He's moved well, thrown the ball well". "So we just keep going from there and see how this thing plays out".

Zimmer said Bridgewater, who has not played in a non-preseason game in 22 months, will dress for the game this week as Keenum's backup.

He's listed with a foot injury and there was no word from the team about whether Griffen's at any risk of missing Sunday's game against Washington.
