Maryland woman dies after boy, 12, jumps from bridge, hits vehicle

A Maryland graduate student who hoped to one day help depressed youths was killed over the weekend when a 12-year-old leaped from an overpass and onto the auto she was driving.

Marisa Harris a 22 year old Olney, Maryland woman has died after a 12 year old boy landed on the vehicle she was driving after jumping from an overpass in a suicide bid. Harris' boyfriend was in the passenger seat of the SUV and was able to grab the steering wheel and safely guide the auto off the interstate.

The boy was rushed to a local hospital for life-threatening injuries, The Associated Press reported.

A 22-year-old grad student died after a young boy landed on her auto in an apparent suicide attempt. He was not injured in the incident.

Harris's mother, Leigh Miller, told NBC Washington her daughter was a counseling student who wanted to work with troubled youths and would have helped the boy if she'd had the chance.

Several members of her family are psychologists. Harris was killed but her 23-year-old passenger and the 12-year-old boy both survived.

The news of Harris's death shook Bruce, but he said her father is especially devastated. "I've been hearing from her classmates all day". "She was loved by her friends, she was dearly loved by her family, she was admired by her peers, and she was just a shining star".
