"We will continue to work with [Media Rights Capital, the production house behind the show] during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show", it said.

Spacey, who has been dumped by his publicist and agents at CAA, is seeking "evaluation and treatment" in the wake of the sexual abuse allegations against him.

Netflix and MRC - the show's production company - said they had been aware of only one incident, in 2012, when a crew member lodged a complaint against Spacey but said that immediate action had been taken.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, actor Anthony Rapp said he attended a party at Spacey's NY apartment in 1986, when he was 14.

London police said they had begun investigating an alleged 2008 sexual assault reportedly linked to Spacey. Netflix did confirm that season 6 would be the final season for the show. The question now is whether the writers will kill off Frank - certainly well within the show's established tone - or figure out another way to explain his absence.

One of the accusers said the actor plied him with alcohol and asked him to watch homosexual pornography with him when he was 16-years-old. Spacey, who has fiercely protected his private life, had never disclosed his sexuality before but said Rapp's story encouraged him to speak and he came out as a gay man.

Netflix has suspended filming of the sixth season, saying the series will end after this season. CNN reported that all of the people described Spacey's behavior as predatory.

"It seems the only requirement was to be a male under the age of 30 for Mr Spacey to feel free to touch us", he wrote in a post on Facebook. His career lies in ruins, and he is also subject to police investigations in London, Los Angeles, and NY. In a statement, the Old Vic expressed "deep dismay" at the sexual assault allegations and said "inappropriate behavior by anyone working at The Old Vic is completely unacceptable". "I witnessed him groping men many times in all sorts of different situations", one told The Guardian newspaper.

Anonymous co-workers have since come forward with more allegations of sexual misconduct against Spacey.
