He'll also be seen in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, playing Young Dumbledore opposite Johnny Depp (ugh) as Young Grindelwald. Instead, he will play Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, who becomes a mentor of sorts to Brie Larson's Carol Danvers/ Captain Marvel as she tries to figure out her new powers.

Jude Law is in negotiations to play the male lead opposite Brie Larson in Marvel's "Captain Marvel", sources tell Variety.

He's played lotharios, vicious villains and movie heroes, but he's never appeared in a Marvel movie, until now.

Jude Law has seemingly taken to big blockbusters as of late.

Ben Mendelson was previously reported as playing the movie's as-yet-unnamed villain. He is also attached to reprise his role as Doctor Watson in a third Sherlock Holmes movie opposite Tony Stark himself, Robert Downey Jr. One thing we know for sure: the film is going to be a bit of a prequel for the MCU, set almost 20 years before the events of the original 2008 Iron Man. The Oscar-winning Room actress was cast as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel last July.

It'll release shortly after Captain Marvel in 2019, though there have been rumblings that a select number of costumed crusaders will cross over into the Larson-fronted spinoff. Let us know down below!

With the Kree-Skrull War coming to the MCU, it only makes sense for Mar-Vell to make his way to Earth to help stop the invasion in Captain Marvel.
