This summer fans of the long-running show DOCTOR WHO were introduced to the brand-new Doctor, and for the first time in the history of the show the part will be played by a woman - Jodie Whittaker.

This morning, the BBC released our first official look at this new Doctor, and.yup, Whittaker looks pretty great standing next to that TARDIS. However, there's going to be a little wait. The Broadchurch alum is succeeding Peter Capaldi, who will make his final appearance as Twelve in the upcoming Christmas special. "Twice Upon a Doctor" teams Peter Capaldi's 12th Doctor with David Bradley as the 1st Doctor (stepping in for the late William Hartnell), in a tale about the two of them coming to grips with their respective needs to regenerate.

"It's more than an honour to play the Doctor", she told the BBC back in July.

Also, take a look over here to stay up to date with all of our Doctor Who coverage courtesy of our CarterMatt Facebook page. It's a Doctor Who tradition! Plus, the vivid lines on the Doctor's t-shirt, coupled with her bright blue trousers also recall the Sixth Doctor's - ahem - rather colorful ensemble.

These are important visual distinctions that give us a peek into a Doctor's personality.

Stripes on the sweater point to those on the striped scarf won by Tom Baker's Doctor, while the suspenders pay homage to the 11th Doctor Matt Smith.

The coat lining matching the graphic on the shirt is a lovely touch, but this is a very interesting look for a new Doctor.

The Broadchurch star will be joined by Bradley Walsh as Graham, Tosin Cole as Ryan and Mandip Gill as Yasmin, for the next season which is now filming in Cardiff.
