Hazleton Area Students Honor Veterans With a Breakfast

Students at Lakeland Elementary School spent Thursday morning honoring our Mid-South American heroes.

The students later broke out into groups meeting with each veteran to hear about their experience one-on-one.

This is the 8 year Lakeland Elementary has performed this ceremony.

The annual day in honor of military veterans will be observed at schools and veterans' facilities.

It was one of several Veterans Day events Friday at schools across St. Joseph.

Ben Wahlstom, student council president says, "Each year, student council does this and it is very rewarding, but also honorable the veterans, they do a lot for us".

Melonas said each year, students and staff create an "honor wall" as a tribute to veterans.

Students were reminded about what Veterans Day means and encouraged to always show thanks to America's veterans.

"Honestly, it's an honor to be here", student Erika Book said.

Students throughout the Custer School District paused from their regular classes to learn about the important individuals who have served our country.

"I want to urge young people to get involved in service for their community as well as their country", he said.

"Kids should really know why we have the freedoms we have today, and I know that is one thing that was opening to my eyes today when I walked around and talked to all the various veterans", Book said.
