A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office has identified Behzad Mesri as the person who hacked into cable network HBO's database, stole plot points and footage, and then threatened to release the data unless he was paid millions.

According to an indictment filed by the US District Court in Manhattan, the suspect is Behzad Mesri, a member of the Turk Black Hat Security hacking team who has worked for the Iranian military on computer attacks against Israel.

Here's the snag: Mesri is in Iran.

An indictment unsealed Tuesday in federal court in Manhattan accuses Behzad Mesri of hacking into the cable network's computer system in NY.

If convicted, Mesri faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for wire fraud, plus up to five years each for four charges related to computer fraud, among other sentences. He also gained access to scripts from Ballers and Room 104.

Mr Kim declined to say if HBO had offered or paid any ransom.

"A series of criminal cases could increase pressure on lawmakers to act", the Post's sources said. "Yes it's true! HBO is hacked..."

Although the document doesn't state that the Iranian Regime told Mesri to attack HBO, it should be made clear that he is deeply tied to the Regime and would be unlikely to attack such a prominent target without their permission.

He sent another e-mail: "I have the honor to inform you. that we successfully breached into your huge network" and that "in a complicated cyber operation, infiltration into your network (was) accomplished and we obtained most valuable information". Included was an image of "Game of Thrones" Night King character, leader of an army of zombies, with the words, "Good luck HBO". He later raised the amount to US$6 million, according to prosecutors.

USA federal prosecutors allege that Mesri leaked some of the stolen data on the Internet.

"He now stands charged with federal crimes, and although not arrested today, he will forever have to look over his shoulder".
