EgyptAir eyes 12+12 CS300s; Iraqi Airways still keen

Bombardier said, earlier this month, that it received a letter of intent from an unnamed European customer for 31 firm CSeries orders.

With the EgyptAir announcement, up to 85 new CSeries jets are covered by commitments disclosed since Bombardier agreed to transfer a majority stake in the small narrowbody programme to Airbus in a deal set be finalised in the second half of 2018.

The CS300 is the larger version of Bombardier's C Series aircraft.

Bombardier expects to turn EgyptAir's letter of intent into a firm order by the end of 2017, commercial aircraft chief Fred Cromer told reporters on a conference call Tuesday from Dubai.

Colin Bole, Bombardier's senior vice president of commercial aircraft, said there were no particular conditions or terms that needed to be met to finalize the deals.

Bole said, "I think it's a great template and it's something that will be followed extremely closely by the other carriers in the region", he said.

An order worth $1.1 billion for 12 Bombardier C-Series aircraft from Egypt's national airline is a welcome confidence boost for Bombardier's workforce in Northern Ireland, but the Canadian aerospace group needs to keeping winning major deals to keep production lines busy in the North, a union leader has warned.

Bombardier has faced a series of problems over the plane, most recently a trade dispute in the U.S. that imposed a 300% import tariff. The aircraft had been plagued by delays and cost overruns, and recently was hit with 300 percent tariffs in the US after a trade complaint by Boeing.
