When asked about de la Huerta's allegations, Sgt. Brendan Ryan of the New York Police Department told Variety in a statement, "We are aware of the sexual assault complaints".

New York City police said Friday that an actress' rape allegations against Harvey Weinstein are credible, and if the movie mogul were in the state and the accusation more recent, they would move to arrest him immediately.

At the time of the first alleged rape, De la Huerta, 26 at the time, had recently started in her recurring role in HBO's "Boardwalk Empire", which was earning her a lot of praise.

Detectives say her story is believable and have corroborated parts of her story.

"We immediately contacted the district attorney in NY and we started working the case together. We are actively investigating them", Sergeant Brendan Ryan, an NYPD spokesman said Thursday. This happened seven years ago, and we found corroboration along the way.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, De Le Huerta said that Weinstein insisted on having a drink at her apartment in NY after offering her a ride home from a hotel in October 2010.

"He pushed me on the bed", she said, "and it happened all very suddenly".

In de la Huerta's account of the night, Weinstein arrived at her apartment demanding to come inside and have a drink.

On December 23 of the same year, she says Weinstein showed up in the lobby of her apartment building, they went upstairs, and he allegedly raped her a second time. "As this is an active investigation, we will not be commenting further".

Officers have received 11 separate allegations of sexual assault on dates ranging from the 1980s to 2015, both in London and outside the United Kingdom.

"He finished what he did, and he told me he'd be calling me", she said.

Is there enough evidence for prosecutors to file charges against Weinstein?

Writers Megan Twohey and William K. Rashbaum wrote that they learned from three people versed on the matter (who wished to remain anonymous) that "the office of the United States attorney for the Southern District of NY is examining whether fraud occurred when the money went to a theater that had staged a musical produced by Mr. Weinstein". Weinstein has denied having non-consensual sex with anyone.
