27 dead in Texas church shooting

An estimated 20 people were killed and 20 others were wounded in the attack, Wilson County commissioner Albert Gamez told cable news outlets.

A GUNMAN has reportedly gone on a shooting spree at a church in Texas.

A spokeswoman for Connally Memorial Medical Center in nearby Floresville told Fox News that "we have accepted a number of patients from the shooting".

A law enforcement official who was briefed on the investigation told The Associated Press that more than 20 people were killed in the shooting.

It is unclear if the shooter was killed by police or took his own life, Mr Murphy said. The FBI & law enforcement are on the scene.

Trump tweeted: "May God be w/ the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas".

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms said agents from its San Antonio office were responding to the shooting. Among those killed at the white clapboard church was a 14-year-old girl named Annabelle Renee Pomeroy, according to her father, Frank Pomeroy, who is a pastor at the church.

"About half of our church members are gone", she said.

US President Donald Trump on Sunday said that he was monitoring from Japan the shooting at a Baptist church in Texas. Abbott's communications director tweeted that the governor is headed to Sutherland Springs for a briefing and media availability.

Police, ambulances and helicopters swarmed to the small church 35 miles east of San Antonio.

Contacted by Al Jazeera, the Wilson County sheriff was not immediately available for comment.

A KSAT-TV reporter, in a live report on Facebook Live, said a man in full gear came into the church and unloaded several rounds, and then took off in a vehicle.
