ZTE launches foldable dual-screen smartphone

While the handset doesn't feature the best hardware to date, the Shenzhen-based original equipment manufacturer isn't highlighting its basic internal specs as some of its selling points. "Their solution is to provide users with not one, but two 5.2" screens in the Axon M. Each display is a 1080P TFT FHQ Gorilla Glass display with 426 PPI. The featured phone is equipped with two foldable screens that can be joined to make a tablet-like device. Dual screens obviously offer some excellent multitasking options for users, if not significantly "transforming the mobile experience", as touted by Lixin Cheng, CEO of ZTE Mobile Devices.

Two is the new one. Its dual screens are attached by a hinge sort of thing with one display attached to the body while the other can be folded to the back or extended outwards.

We have been hearing about Samsung working on a foldable phone for quite long, but before it could actually launch it, ZTE stole the thunder with its first in the industry dual-screen smartphone. Some of the cons include dual screen modes, single camera for all kinds of pictures (including selfies) and smooth folding function. The Extend mode lets you open an app across both the screens to give you more content at once.

When it's folded, the Axon M has a display on either side. Do make a note however, that not all apps will work with the extended screen mode. You also get a decent, but not super new Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 CPU, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and microSD card expandability. This has taken flip or foldable phones to another level altogether. The phone has a 3,180 mAh of battery capacity. If you're loving it, you'll be happy to learn that this device will be available at AT&T stores next month, priced at $24.17/month for 30 months. It is sadly not a foldable screen smartphone if you were hoping for that. The newly launched device will also be released in China, Japan and in Europe, but sadly there is no news on the phone's launch date for India.

On Tuesday, ZTE revealed a new entry in the mobile phone market.

You'll also find specs like Gorilla Glass 5 on each display, a 20-megapixel camera, and a 3,180mAh battery, which ZTE said is created to provide a full day's use between charges. The ZTE Axon M sports a full aluminium unibody design and comes with a dual speaker system with Dolby Atmos audio support for an immersive audio experience.
