Without being able to collect evidence on the ground it's impossible to confirm her death, but The Sun reported that the Central Intelligence Agency had told United Kingdom counterparts that Jones was killed by a Predator drone strike close to the Syria-Iraq border back in June.

She was marked as a "high priority" on the US's kill list earlier this year, the newspaper added. There have been several such claims of IS militants having been killed only for them to resurface months later.

A British woman who was a key recruiting figure for Isis and who became a notorious hate figure in her home country has reportedly been killed by a missile strike by American forces on the Iraq/Syria border.

A Whitehall source told The Sun: "The Americans zapped her trying to get away from Raqqa".

Pentagon spokesman Maj Adrian Rankine-Galloway said: "I do not have any information that would substantiate that report but that could change and we are looking into this".

The London-born mother of two, the former singer in a punk band, converted to Islam in 2013 while living in the southern county of Kent.

Jones in particular targeted young girls to travel to Syria and become jihadi brides and her husband reportedly ran a hacking unit for ISIS.

In 2016 she posted a message saying "Have a nice summer".

The 50-year-old used her Twitter account to recruit women and shared pictures of herself with weapons.

"The premise that Sally Jones and her son are dead is probably accurate".

Given her penchant for encouraging terror attacks in the West, she was nicknamed Mrs Terror.

The city is now besieged as coalition forces attempt to drive back ISIS.

Mr Corbyn, said it was hard to answer a question about whether he would have ordered a drone strike to kill Jones if British troops had been at risk, as it was hypothetical.

Major General Chip Chapman, the former MoD head of counter terror, said Jones would have been a "significant" target as a result of her alliance with Hussain and her role in recruiting IS fighters.
