Powered by a 2.0-liter Ingenium four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor, it has a combined system output of 398 horsepower and 472 pound-feet of torque.

That's because the introduction of the brand's first-ever plug-in hybrid coincides with the base model's mid-life facelift.

JLR UK managing director Jeremy Hicks added: "The current Range Rover Sport has performed exceptionally well in the UK market since it was introduced in 2013 selling just shy of 50,000 vehicles to date".

The 2018 Range Rover Sport is getting several updates for the 2018 model year, including updated styling, a new infotainment system and more power for the SVR model.

At the other end of the economy scale is the new Range Rover Sport SVR, which features the same 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine as before but now producing 567bhp - a 25bhp increase.

The 13.1kWh lithium-ion battery is mounted at the rear beneath the boot floor, reducing boot space from 780 litres to 703 litres.

Under normal conditions the vehicle acts like a traditional hybrid, using a mixture of electric power and the petrol engine to provide the best compromise between performance and economy.

The 2018 Range Rover Sport lineup will arrive in Australia in April, with prices starting from $95,100 (excluding on-road costs).

The whole of the Range Rover Sport line-up now benefits from new LED headlights, an upgraded grille and reprofiled bumpers, while changes to the interior include two high-definition 10-inch touchscreens. The updated SUV is in for a few cosmetic changes inside and out and new variants.

Before now, all Range Rover Sports - even the diesel-electric hybrid model - have sat in the top 34% company vehicle bracket, making them expensive options for business users.

With a dedicated 32 amp wall box, the Range Rover Sport can be fully charged in as little as two hours and 45 minutes, while the standard 10 amp charging cable will replenish the battery in 7.5 hours.

Drivers can choose from two driving modes.

A "Save" function will keep the battery topped up to a preset level, while "Predictive Energy Optimisation" uses data from the sat nav's GPS system to maximise economy over hills. Deliveries begin early in 2018.

Pricing for the new Range Rover Sport SVR starts at £61,315, you can find out more details about both of these new Range Rover Sport SUVs over at Land Rover at the link below.
