The 49ers released inside linebacker NaVorro Bowman on Friday, which means the veteran is now free to sign with any team.

"NaVorro gave his heart and soul to this team for the last eight years, and for that we are all extremely grateful", 49ers general manager John Lynch said in a press release.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell annonces DeForest Buckner of OR as the #7 overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers during the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University on April 28, 2016 in Chicago, Illinois.

"Although NaVorro may be moving on, he will always be looked at as one of the great players to wear the red and gold".

It's unclear, according the report, if Bowman is interested in signing with the Saints. The former All-Pro vetoed a trade and the team cut him.

Bowman originally joined the 49ers as a third-round pick in 2010 and quickly formed one of the league's best linebacking duos with Patrick Willis.

Bowman made three-straight Pro Bowls with Fangio as his coach from 2011-2013 before a knee injury forced him to miss all of 2014, Fangio's past year in San Francisco.

There is a ton of interest in Bowman, and here are five teams that could scoop him up after the weekend. Bowman then tore his Achilles tendon early last season and missed most of the year before coming back again this year.
