Kane scores twice as Spurs thrash Huddersfield

While Kane's finishing ability has been evident in the past week, Pochettino said there were other parts of his game that did not always get recognised.

Spurs added a fourth in stoppage time when substitute Moussa Sissoko finished off a counter-attack after good work from Son Heung-min and Davies.

Kane, the Premier League's Golden Boot victor for the last two seasons, failed to score in August, but followed up his midweek Champions League hat-trick against Apoel in brilliant fashion.

David Wagner's side have had a commendable start to their first season in the Premier League.

Committing more bodies forward, the Terriers were caught out at the back moments later when Kane latched onto Kieran Trippier's long ball and placed a low strike beyond Jonas Lossl, finding the bottom corner.

Striker Steve Mounie should be available for selection again after the worldwide break, but Huddersfield being shot-shy is not exactly a new thing that can be wholly explained with reference to the Benin international's absence.

They were more than a match for Spurs early on as Tommy Smith had one fine long-range effort palmed away by Hugo Lloris and Rajiv van la Parra also saw Eric Dier block another opportunity.

"It's so hard to find words to say about Harry Kane every three days, to find different words to describe him", Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino told reporters.

"We will hope to avoid any injury with any player".

The latter will finish September with an nearly absurd 11 goals for club and two more for England.

What was, therefore, heartening was how the home fans stuck with their team.

In doing so, Kane has become just one of three players to score that many goals in a single month, with Ronaldo doing it for Real Madrid in October 2010, and Messi for Barcelona in March 2012.

It was probably a good job that the fixture computer rather kindly left it until the end of September for the first of the big boys to visit the John Smith's Stadium.

He is probably the closest player to the Denmark worldwide, named Spurs' supporters' player of the season past year, in the squad but Pochettino was reluctant to compare them, adding: "It's bad to compare two players".

"It's the next step but this group so far has taken every step as well as they could have done".

Again, they actually played quite well against Spurs, a level of performance which was enough to get past Crystal Palace and Newcastle, but not Tottenham.
