Honeypreet Insan breaks silence, blames media for 'maligning a father-daughter relationship'

The Punjab government on Tuesday rejected reports that Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh's aide Honeypreet Insan was in the custody of the Punjab police or she was being shielded by the state government. She along with other Dera members having the charges of inciting the agitation and violence by the Dera followers.

Haryana Police's IG, law and order, AS Chawla, said that Honeypreet was arrested by Haryana Police on Patiala Road after they were tipped off about she travelling in a Toyota Innova auto.

Honeypreet, who also acted in a few films along side the jailed Dera chief, said she never had any desire to be a heroine in the films or enter Bollywood.

After Ram Rahim's conviction, she also accompanied him in a chopper to Rohtak jail.

There had been no trace of Honeypreet after August 25. I went into depression. It is hard to comprehend how she successfully evaded arrest despite there being lookout notices and non-bailable warrants issued against her. She was bumped up to the top of Haryana's most wanted list and airports and border police were warned about her.

She said she went with her "father" Ram Rahim to the court after his conviction like a daughter and that too with the government's consent.

Earlier in the day, In an interview to India Today, Honeypreet (real name Priyanka Taneja), claimed that she was innocent. She was on the run for over a month after being accused of inciting violence following the conviction of Gurmeet Ram Rahim in a rape case.

"She is being brought to Panchkula for questioning in connection with the incidents of violence". "I am being joined by people with a similar mindset", says Sandeep Mishra in the video, according to India Today.

On September 26, the Delhi High Court turned down the anticipatory bail plea of a suspected accomplice of arrested Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Honeypreet Insan. Cops are now tracing individuals who may have provided Honeypreet shelter since the jailing of Gurmeet.
