You now have another, cheaper way to access Google Assistant. It includes the same features featured in a cylindrical speaker that Google rolled out a year ago in response to Amazon's Echo.

The Google Home Mini is a sleek design with rounded corners to make it look like an ornament and seemingly integrate into a room. Now, the company will soon offer a trio of options for consumers. The speaker has dual 4.5-inch woofers for better bass performance. Outside, this stereo speaker has a fabric-covered front grille. Can it win the battle against Apple HomePod?

That's just the tip of the iceberg, really, as Google Home Mini can plug into all kinds of situations and be tuned to suit your personal home life as necessary. You get tips and tricks and suggestions for Google Assistant in the Discover section and suggestions for content consumption in the Browse section. The rounded-edged speaker can be flipped to sit horizontally or vertically, depending on where you have it in your home. In addition to relaying audio from the phone, the headphones can also translate spoken language in real time, working with translation software built into the new Pixels. The speaker also can identify your specific voice and can pull up your favorite playlists or stations. It can stream music from YouTube Music and Spotify (with a free or paid-for subscription). The new drop focuses on using earphones for more than just listening to music as it incorporates users by helping with their day-to-day tasks, such as map navigation and even translating other languages by calling to Google Translate. The speaker is covered nearly entirely in fabric dyed in chalk (light gray), coral (red), and charcoal (darker gray) colors.

The Google Home Mini is available for preorder today. The Home Mini aims to take on the Amazon Echo while the bigger variant aims to take on the likes of Sonos 3.

While the Home Mini debuted today to compete with the Echo Dot and low-priced smart speakers, the Home Max will compete directly with high-end smart speakers like products from Sonos, recently unveiled Echo Plus and Apple's HomePod.
